The co-signed organisations and civil society groups present in Samos wish to raise concerns about the restrictions implemented in the camp over the last two weeks, whereby camp residents who do not have a valid asylum applicant card have not been allowed to exit the camp.

Kos hosts the only pre-removal detention centre on the Eastern Aegean islands. Since January 2020, the Greek authorities have detained nearly every asylum seeker who has arrived on the island of Kos automatically upon arrival. This has historically included survivors of gender-based violence and torture, families with young children, elderly persons, LGBTQIA people, and people suffering from serious physical and mental health conditions. The automatic detention of asylum seekers is illegal under Greek, EU, and international human rights law, and yet the situation on Kos remains relatively unknown.

Εξαντλώντας την αυστηρότητά του το μικρό ορκωτό δικαστήριο Χίου καταδίκασε σε ποινή κάθειρξης 10 ετών για τον καθένα τους τέσσερις μετανάστες, που είχαν συλληφθεί και παραπεμφθεί ως υπεύθυνοι για τον εμπρησμό και την καταστροφή του κέντρου υποδοχής και ταυτοποίησης της Μόριας Λέσβου, τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2020.

Η έφεση που ασκήθηκε δεν έχει ανασταλτικό αποτέλεσμα κι έτσι οι τέσσερις καταδικασθέντες θα μεταχθούν την προσεχή εβδομάδα κατά πάσα πιθανότητα στις φυλακές Αυλώνας.
