ZINE is a platform for expression in the midst of uncertainty, an attempt to control one’s own narrative when circumstances and bureaucracy are wearing away at that right where the refugees of Leros’ hotspot are concerned. Instead of an identity based in police paperwork, asylum applications, or case numbers, ZINE is composed of poetry, art, and personal narratives. It is that age-old rebel yell for humanity, this time coming from the hotspots of Greece. It is produced by Echo100Plus at The Hub – a community center on the island of Leros – where refugees who reside in RIC facilities
In the spring of 2017, we set out to create together. Using only disposable cameras we sought to bring awareness to the worst refugee crisis the world has seen since WW2, from the eyes of those affected the most. All pictures and stories throughout Fish Out Of Sea were created by people from the refugee camps in the Greek islands of Chios And Lesvos.
After 3 weeks of making ‘zines with the storytelling class of Mosaik Support Center we're proud to present the results!
Zines are self published mini magazines and our writers have found creative ways to present their ideas, thoughts, poems and tales.
We will also exhibit a selection of other works created during the storytelling workhops at Mosaik.
