29 employers in Lesvos expressed interest in recruiting asylum seekers

More than 1,000 jobs in about 200 companies across the country were filled within three months by recognized refugees hosted in the structures of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, in the framework of the "Career Days" action, according to the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Sophia Voultepsi.

9 events were organised, of which 3 in Attica (Malakasa, Ritsona, Serafeion) and 6 in the Region (Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Lesvos, Samos, Chios and Kos), in order to connect refugees and asylum seekers seeking employment with employers of various sectors operating in Greece and experiencing a shortage of workers.

A total of 2,112 refugees participated, 4,319 interviews were conducted and 1,285 jobs were offered to 965 people by 196 employers and companies across the country. CVs were prepared in advance and employers had the opportunity to talk personally with their prospective employees.

This is the result of the cooperation of the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Sofia Voultepsi and the Head of the UNHCR Maria Clara Martin, with the contribution of the Secretary General for Reception and Identification Stellina Siarapi and the decisive assistance of the commanders of the structures, where the creation of Integration Offices has already begun.

This is a key strategic objective to promote the employability of refugees, supporting the National Strategy for Integration, for the benefit of both refugees and the Greek economy and society in general.

The responsibility for the selection of employers and the monitoring of the whole process lies with the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum and the UNHCR, who select their partners on a case-by-case basis.
